How an Underground Fence System works is really quite simple when you understand the key components and how they function with one another. The first component is a Transmitter which is installed in a weather protected area such as a garage or basement. The second component is the Boundary Wire which is used to determine the perimeter of your property or whatever area you determine you want to restrict your pets to. The third component is the Receiver or Underground Fence Collar which is worn by the dogs or cats you wish to contain. Different Underground Fence Systems can be purchased depending on the size of your property, the size and type of pet you desire to contain and their temperament. The fourth component in the system is the Flags which are used to train your pets.
Once the underground Fence system is hooked up the transmitter sends a radio signal through the boundary wire to the receiver collar worn by the pet. Flags are temporarily set up around the outer edge of the pet area (Warning Zone) approximately 10 feet apart. As your pet approaches the Warning Zone the Receiver Collar will begin to beep and vibrate warning the pet to go no further. If your pet continues beyond the warning zone into the Static Correction Zone the Receiver Collar will deliver an effective and safe Static Correction until the pet returns to the pet area. The level of Static Correction and the width of the Warning and Static Correction Zones can be adjusted depending on your pet's temperament and your property restrictions.
Your Underground Fence dog fencing or cat fence can be installed in virtually any configuration you desire. Your Underground Fence can be used to separate your front yard from your back yard and depending on the particular system can be used on properties up to 25 acres. You can also install your fencing around areas you wish to keep your pets out of such as swimming pools, gardens, flower beds and shrubs. Once you have determined the right Underground Fence System to meet your needs and have a basic layout of your property, you can determine whether you will need to purchase any additional components besides those that come with your system. By purchasing additional Receiver Collars you can contain as many dogs or cats as you wish. With additional boundary wire you can increase the perimeter of the fence. Now that you know which Underground Fence System meets your needs and whether or not any additional components are needed you are ready to decide on the type of installation. Your Underground Fence System can be installed by burying the boundary wire 1 to 2 inches below ground or by running it above ground using Sod Staples to hold the wire in place. By installing the Underground Fence System above ground you can save yourself a considerable amount of difficult work. If you have an existing fence surrounding your property you can even install the boundary wire at the base of your existing fence eliminating pets from digging under or jumping over the fence. I should also mention that there are Wireless Fence Systems available, just plug in the Transmitter, set the boundary and you are done.
Training of your pet or pets to their new boundary can be accomplished in as little as 10 to 15 minutes a couple times a day over a period of a few days to a week. Once your pet has completed its training and is aware of its new boundaries you can now remove the training flags.
Well, that's pretty much it as far as the components of an Underground Fence System and how it works to keep your pets contained.
